"Duplicating" a Primary SCCM
Dear friends
We need to setup/integrate in a unbundeling project with a new AD an SCCM from an existing Primary SCCM Server (all 2007 SP2 R3 mixed).
I see the following procedure:
- Setup the Primary Server as CentralSite
- Install a new Primary Server (other Site Code) and set the CentralSite Server as parent
- Transfer packages, configuration to the new Primaryserver
Question: Is it possible to remove the parent server configuration when all it's configured. What's happened with the content of the Datbase ? Is this a 100% full replica of the centralsite and the so created server in the situation for a completely sccm
service ? The Ex PArent and the primary server are absolutely isoleted and will never have connection.
- Shutdown Server and join to the new domain (SQL is on the same box running in mixed mode). We expect that the internal Permission of SCCM are broken and all AD related staff. The Agent on the client will be deployeda gain. (This procedure we had tested
and it runs with some "hacks")
If you have a better idea to proceed or information please let me know !
Cheers

A site server do not support changing the servername. There is however no problems in setting up a new site server in the new domain and make it a child site to the existing server. That way all objects will replicate down to the new site. After all
objects are migrated you can break the parent/child relationship.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Hi Kent
Yes this is clear and I'm aweare that this is not possible (we aren't planning this). A domain change is possible with the impact that the internal security is lost but the server can't be renamed (but only when SQL is on the same box and sql is running
mixed mode). I tested this procedure with a MSFT friend succesfully.
My question is when we set up a primary SCCM and set as parent the other SCCM Server if we can remove the parent server after transferring packages and collections. (The primary has in this state no assigned computers and a new sitecode. It containts several
hundred sw packages, driver packages and pnp's also about only 6-8 Task sequences). The goal is to transfer the collections, packages etc to the new primary server.
I know that I can change the parent sccm from one server to another (sccm) server. But can I remove the parent server completely the two server will stay isolated ?
Cheers
